WHO?

Our service will be a monthly opportunity for those around the world looking for sound theology, passionate and progressive preaching, liberal topics, and queer-friendly leadership.

USA Folx: This space may be especially attractive to those in ministry looking for a chill place to take their collar off or for people looking to bolster their allyship (which starts with strong relationship building)! This is for allies, ...Black folk, any folk, really.

HOW?

Our siblings in Kenya will conduct parts of our service each month on the Zoom service, as a part of our  experiential learning model which is a fancy word for hands-on training. Women and girls in leadership will learn elements of worship, choir performance and religious education through practicing in real time and receiving coaching and mentorship.

They will also attend an optional fellowship and lesson before service ( which is open to all).

FULL EXPLANATION OF WHY:

After more than 250 people attended our Passing the Flame installation service, with 130 in Kenya, we recognized a need for a global exchange of culture, song, and story. That is why we are pleased to announce our Kenya Pilot of the Global Worship Exchange.

Rev. Qiyamah started Sister Souurce's Global Justice Initiative in 2024 by taking a pilgrimage through Africa, interviewing and communing with thousands of people. She interacted with U/Us (this is how we write global UUs), who were incredibly inspiring and thoughtful. She also met robust communities across Kenya that were fighting for community across the differences of their language, distances, and tribes. The need for training was expressed in areas like choir development, resource guides, translation, and UU theology. Their UU communities are largely covered by the umbrella of UUCK, The UU Council/Church of Kenya. It spans six regions and 40 congregations, presenting strengths and challenges due to Kenya's size and cultural and linguistic diversity.

This led to the idea, after Passing the Flame, of blending Rev. Qiyamah's research with UUCK's incredible talent in worship arts. Sister Source boasts tons of music, poetry, and sermons in our ResoUUrce Library (and by email!). We are pleased to now have Kenyan additions to this library, which will continue to grow after each monthly service.

We have been awarded a grant by the UU Funding Program to carry out this training.

12/24/25
Press Release for first service

United States, 25th Dec 2025 - "Sister Souurce, Inc., the first organization dedicated to spiritually expansive Black Unitarian Universalist women, girls, and femmes, is launching a new pop-up global worship pilot connecting African communities, Black women and girls, and U/U allies through shared leadership, progressive theology, and hands-on faith formation.

The Global Worship Exchange (GWE) Global Worship Exchange| Sister Souurce grew out of the momentum and reach of Rev. Crystal Saiyge’s global installation

service as Executive Director, which brought together more than 250 participants, including 130 attendees across Kenya. The strength of that international participation revealed both the appetite and the relational infrastructure for an ongoing, cross-border worship model rooted in mutual exchange rather than one-directional presentation.

Founded in 2021 to serve Black women and girls in the United States, Sister Souurce deepened its global engagement following a 2024 pilgrimage across the African continent. Through conversations with thousands of Unitarian Universalists, particularly in Kenya, the organization encountered a shared desire for theological grounding, community connection, and leadership development across differences of language, geography, and ritual. Those insights shaped GWE as a model focused not on exporting belief, but on building faith infrastructure in relationship.

Beginning December 27 at 11:00 a.m. (USA Eastern Time) on Zoom, Sister Souurce will anchor a monthly Global Worship Exchange (GWE) featuring liberal theology, progressive preaching, queer-affirming leadership, and shared Unitarian Universalist learning. Each service follows a collaborative rhythm, with fellowship time for Kenyan participants at 10:00 a.m. ET and a Unitarian Universalist lesson at 10:30 a.m. ET, culminating in a fully integrated global worship experience. Designed as a pop-up model, GWE remains agile, adaptive, and responsive across borders. Those wishing to join should RSVP via this link: https://www.sistersouurce.org/globalworship

Leaders from the Unitarian Universalist Church of Kenya will present portions of each monthly GWE service, participating in a learn-by-doing approach that strengthens local capacity while fostering shared leadership and mutual accountability across continents. “As African women and faith leaders, we bring wisdom, resilience, and lived theology into global worship spaces. The Global Worship Exchange honors our voices and creates room for shared leadership that strengthens both local communities and global Unitarian Universalist connections,” explains Alice Magara, UUCK Women Leader

In addition to worship, Sister Souurce hosts programming that invites U/U allies and broader audiences to celebrate Black joy, creativity, and spiritual expansiveness alongside Black women, girls, and femmes, reinforcing partnership rather than charity.

“Global worship doesn’t have to flatten difference to create unity,” points out Rev. Crystal Saiyge, Executive Director of Sister Souurce. “What emerged from my installation was a clear invitation—to build something ongoing and shared, where leadership, theology, and relationship are shaped together across borders.”

Sister Souurce is pleased to welcome its first sponsor, the UU Worldwide Youth Network (UUWYN, pronounced“you-win”). UUWYN will support thefirst Global Worship Exchange (GWE) service by contributing toward food, water, and internet/data access for local watch parties.

Looking ahead, Sister Souurce plans to expand the Global Worship Exchange (GWE) into additional countries in 2026, continuing its mission to empower presence, amplify voices, and create connection for spiritually expansive Black women, girls, and

femmes—while inviting U/U allies into shared responsibility for a liberal faith without borders, and becoming a model for congregations seeking meaningful global connection and exchange."
